Biographical History

Eugene Thompson (1944-2018) was a professor and author in Idaho.

Eugene Taylor Thompson was born on August 26, 1944 in San Bernardino, California to Elmer Taylor Thompson and Margaret Marie Dawson. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served as a missionary in Chile. He attended Brigham Young University, and later earned his Ph.D. at the University of Washington. In 1971 he married Phyllis Lyman.

While at Brigham Young University he served as a member of the Centennial History Project. He began working at Ricks College in 1983 in the English Department, but later moved to the Department of History. He taught courses at Ricks, and later Brigham Young University--Idaho, until his retirement in 2011.

Thompson passed away on November 2, 2018 in Gilbert, Arizona.
