Dec. 12, 1914 in Fielding, Utah; parents: Ezra Hugh and Elizabeth Charlotte Hodges Packer; served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Palmyra, N.Y.; m. Sept. 17, 1937 in Salt Lake Temple to Palmyra Bean; secondary school teacher in Logan, Utah; worked as Scouting professional in Berkeley, Calif., eventually Scout Executive of Cache Valley Council in Logan; 1959, left Scouting to teach at Brigham Young University in Youth Leadership; degrees from Utah State University, BYU, and University of Utah; 1963, BYU Professor of the Year; member of Church MIA General Board, helped develop the Varsity Scout Program; served mission with wife to New Zealand, Tahiti, Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, to foster scouting in the Church; recipient of Silver Beaver, Provo Peak Awards, and Silver Antelope; former member of Rotary, Lions, Jr. Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Commerce, Juvenile Protection Committee, National Red Cross and Phi Kappa Phi)
