D. James Cannon (1919-1998) was an author, businessman, and served as the Utah Tourist and Publicity Director.
D. (Donald) James Cannon was born on December 8, 1919, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the seventh child of Sylvester Quayle Cannon and Winnifred Irene Saville. He graduated from the University of Utah and worked directing Educational Rehabilitation at the Bushnell Army Hospital in Brigham City, Utah. James served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii. He later worked for Deseret News and as Utah's Tourist and Publicity Director. James was also an author, ran a printing and publishing business, and worked as an economic development consultant. He married Elaine Anderson on March 25, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Elaine served as the 8th Young Women General President for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. James died on March 5, 1998, in Salt Lake City, Utah, at the age of 78.
