Biographical History

Marion J. Bentley (1928-) is a retired theater professor at Brigham Young University in Provo.

Marion J. Bentley was born on October 27, 1928 to Herbert Roy and Lenora Bentley in St. George, Utah. After graduating high school at Woodward High School, Bentley went to Dixie College and received an associates degree in science. He then attended the University of Utah for his bachelor's degree, Stanford University for his master's degree and went back to the University of Utah to receive a PhD in theater in 1968. Bentley taught at Rutgers University for three years after receiving his PhD and then moved to Provo to teach in the Honors Program and Theater Department at Brigham Young University. After thirty-one years of teaching at Brigham Young University, Bentley retired in 2002.

In 1961, Bentley married Deanna Dorothy Lee Hawkins in Washington, Utah. He also served in the Air Force while attending college.
