Biographical History

Arthur Owen Chapman (1913-2003) was a zoology professor in Utah.

Arthur Owen Chapman was born on March 16, 1913 in Heber City, Utah to John M. and Jennie Dahlman Chapman. He was raised a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Heber City, and attended Brigham Young University. He married Corma Gamble in the Salt Lake Temple on June 6, 1941, and they had two children. Chapman served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and after his return earned a master's degree from the University of Kansas and a Ph.D. from University of Nebraska. After graduating he taught at University of Nebraska Medical School before joining the zoology faculty at Brigham Young University in 1959. He remained at the school until his retirement in 1978. During his life Chapman was an active member of Church, serving missions to the Central States, Washington, D.C., and London, England. He died in Orem, Utah on February 25, 2003.
