Biography

Student Life (established 1972) administers programs related to student activities, student counseling, and student instruction outside of the colleges and departments of instruction.] Student Life was established in 1972, replacing the earlier Student Personnel Services division. The unit was given responsibility for coordinating and overseeing aspects of student life that are outside the range of the colleges and departments of instruction, including student activities, counseling, student health, and student living conditions. It has been administered by Dean of Student Life, and since 1996 it has been administered by the Vice President of Student Life. Administrators have included J. Elliot Cameron (1972-1979), David M. Sorenson (1979-1986), Maren Mouritsen (1986-1996), Alton L. Wade (1996-2001), and Janet S. Scharman (2001-).

Includes a copy of the management report of the McDonald Health Center, 1978; a copy of "On the Lord's errand," from the Student Life fall conference, 1985; and memoranda concerning international student enrollment, student standards, and the task force on nutritional needs of students. Also includes cassette tape and transcript of talk given by Elder Thomas S. Monson to bishops, stake presidents, and university administrators on 26 August 1985.

Of particular interest are files on the development of the dress and grooming standards and the athletic ticket policy.
