Administrative History
The Church Educational System (est. 1970) is an educational program for students and adults in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Church Educational System (CES) was formed in 1970 in a reorganization of the earlier Unified Church School System. The system included primary and secondary educational institutions operated by the Church, including seminaries and institutes of religion. The system is administered by the Commissioner of Church Education, and operates under the direction of the Board of Education of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Commissioners of Church Education have included Neal A. Maxwell (1970-1976), Jeffrey R. Holland (1976-1980), Henry B. Eyring (1980-1986), J. Elliot Cameron (1986-1989), Henry B. Eyring (1992-2004), W. Rolfe Kerr (2005-2008), and Paul V. Johnson (2008- ).

Contains records, including tape transcripts of Franklin L. West's narrative of the "history of the department of education of the LDS Church," relating to Brigham Young University, LDS Business College, and the Juarez and Kelsey academies. Also includes correspondence on candidates for Brigham Young University president. Dated approximately 1936 to 1966.
General Church Board of Education records
Contains administrative codes, regulations, minutes of executive meetings and charts concerning the Church Education System and its relationship to Brigham Young University, and listings of Church positions held by Brigham Young University staff members (17 items). Materials date from between 1938 and 1943.
