Administrative History
The Department of Health Sciences (1970-2002) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University. The unit taught courses in personal health, health education, and public health.
The Department of Health Sciences was established in 1970 in a reorganization of the earlier Department of Health and Safety Education. Initially part of the College of Physical Education, it became part of the College of Health and Human Performance in 1998. In 2002 the department was renamed the Department of Health Science.
Department chairs included Ray Watters (1970-1979), Ronald L. Rhodes (1979-1986), L. McKay Rollins (1986-1992), Keith Karren (1992-1999), and Gordon B. Lindsay (1999-2002).
