Administrative History

The Communication Services Division (1965-1972) was an academic support unit at Brigham Young University.

The Communication Services Division was established in 1965 to coordinate the entire communication and media program at the University. Departments in the division included Motion Picture Production, Educational Media Services, Broadcast Services, University Press, and the Photo Studio. Additional departments were added over time. Electronic Media was added in 1967, and the Department of Instructional Research and Development in 1968. In 1970 Instructional Photo/Graphics was also added to the division. In 1972, Communication Services Division was renamed the Instructional Services Division.

The director of Communication Services was Darrel J. Monson, under the supervision of assistant to the president Heber Wolsey.
