The Department of Mechanical Engineering Science (1957-1977) was an instructional unit at Brigham Young University. The department taught courses in the development and manufacture of mechanical products.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering Science was established in 1957 following a split of the earlier Department of Engineering Sciences. It was initially part of the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences, but was moved to the newly established College of Engineering Sciences and Technology in 1973. In 1977, the unit was renamed the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Department chairs included Leland K. Baxter (1957-1960), John M. Simonsen (1960-1962 and 1968-1973), John N. Cannon (1962-1966), Milton G. Wille (1966-1968), and John M. Simonsen (1973-1977).
