Administrative History
The Institute of Business Management (1981-1997) was a research institute at Brigham Young University.
The Institute of Business Management was established as part of the Department of Business Management in the College of Business in 1981. When the department was dissolved in 1983, the Institute continued to provide instruction in general business, finance, marketing, operations and system analysis, and retailing. In 1989 the Institute remained as part of the newly named Marriott School of Management, and was closely associated with the Institute of Retail Management. Directors of the Institute included Ivan T. Call (1983-1984) and Robert H. Daines (1984-1990), Scott M. Smith (1990-1994), Heikki J. Rinne (1994-1996), and Ned C. Hill (1996-1997). In 1997 the Institute was dissolved with the reestablishment of the Department of Business Management.
