Biography

The Argentina South Mission (1970-1974) was a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was succeeded by the Argentina Buenos Aires North mission when the mission was divided into the Buenos Aires North and South missions.

The Argentina South Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints originated as the Argentine Mission which was formed on 14 August 1935 with W Ernest Young and his wife Cecile Young as the first mission president and wife of the mission. In 1962 the mission was split into the Argentina North Mission and Argentine Mission. On the 10th of June 1970 the name of the Argentine mission was finally changed to the Argentina South Mission with Verdon E Bettilyon and his wife Julia Nadine Bettilyon continuing as presidents of the mission through the name change. The mission was officially divided into the Buenos Aires North and South missions on July 22nd 1974. Buenos Aires North retained the last mission president of the Argentina South mission, Carl Dixon Anderson. The purpose of these missions was to manage the proselytizing efforts of teaching missionaries of the Church in Argentina, and other countries when the Argentine mission was formed.
