Administrative History

The Department of Ancient Scripture is an instructional unit at Brigham Young University.

The Department of Ancient Scripture was established in 1969 as part of the College of Religious Instruction, and remained during subsequent reorganizations of the college as Religious Instruction and Religious Education. The unit provides instruction on the Book of Mormon, Bible, and Pearl of Great Price. Department chairs have included Ellis T. Rasmussen (1969-1972), Robert C. Patch (1972-1975), Robert L. Mathews (1975-1982), Monte S. Nyman (1982-1983), S. Kent Brown (1983-1986), George A. Horton (1986-1989), Robert L. Millet (1989-1991), Stephen E. Robinson (1991-1997), Andrew C. Skinner (1997-2001), Daniel K. Judd (2001-2005), Terry B. Ball (2005-2006), Dennis L. Largey (2006-2011), and Camille Fronk Olson (2011- ).
