Lewis Building (Provo, Utah)
Administrative History
The Lewis Building (1867-1884) was the first home of Brigham Young Academy.
In 1867, the J. W. Lewis store was in downtown Provo and purchased by Brigham Young shortly afterward. He specified that Brigham Young Academy was to hold school there, however, repairs delayed the building's use until 1876. Brigham Young Academy was housed there until 1884, when the Lewis Building burned down.
