Administrative History

The Department of Computer Science (est. 1969) is an instructional unit of Brigham Young University. The department works to prepare students in computer programming and technical problem solving.

The Department of Computer Science was established in 1969 as part of the College of Physical and Engineering Sciences. When that college was reorganized in 1973, the department was moved to the new College of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Department chairs have included C. Edwin Dean (1969-1976), Theodore A. Norman (1976-1981), Billy Ray Hays (1981-1992), Dan R. Olsen (1992-1997), William A. Barrett 1997-1999), Tony Martinez (1999-2008), Parris K. Egbert (2008-2014), and Michael Goodrich (2014- ).
