Administrative History
The Department of Anthropology (1980-) is an administrative unit at Brigham Young University.
The Department of Anthropology came around as a reorganization of the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology in 1980 as part of the College of Social Sciences. In 1981 the college changed to the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences. It provides instruction in social and cultural anthropology, linguistic, biological, and psychological anthropology. Department chairs have been John L. Sorenson (1980-1987), Donald W. Forsyth (1987-1993), John P. Hawkins (1993-1999), Joel C. Janetski (1999-2006), David P. Crandall (2006-2010), Charles W. Nuckolls (2010-2016), and James R. Allison (2016- ).
