Administrative History

The Department of Accounting and Business Administration (1921-1952) was a department within the College of Commerce at Brigham Young University.

The Department of Accounting and Business Administration was esablished in 1921 within the newly formed College of Commerce. It was previously called the Dept. of Business Education within the School of Arts and Sciences. The department was administered by a department chair, under direction of the college dean. The department was associated with a number of colleges during its history, including the College of Commerce and Business Administration (1922-1929) and the College of Commerce (1929-1952). Department chairmen included Harrison Val Hoyt (1930), Herald R. Clark (1931-1935) and Harrison Val Hoyt (1936-1951). In 1956, the department was split into the Departments of Accounting and Business Administration.

The Department of Accounting and Business Administration included courses in accounting, marketing, commercial art, statistics, and tax procedure.
