Contains revelations, correspondence, legal records, military documents, and church records created and collected by Whitney between 1829 and 1882. Materials document Whitney's service as bishop in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as well as other aspects of the administration, economics, and community life in Mormon communities in Ohio, Missouri, and Illinois.

Scope and Contents

Contains the personal papers of Whitney, including correspondence, account books, patriarchal blessings and other materials dating from between 1817 and 1900. These papers primarily document his church and personal business in Kirtland, Ohio and Nauvoo, Illinois. Includes extensive correspondence with his brother, Samuel F. Whitney. Documents from after Whitney's death deal with the disposition of his estate and his burial.
