Scope and Contents Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson (writing from Washington D.C.) thanks Margaret Pitzer (Santa Cruz, California) for her recent letter. Margaret Pitzer has just visited Salt Lake City and has heard that Benson wants to run for a second term as Secretary of Agriculture. Benson corrects this rumor. Handwritten letter written in San Francisco, California, dated May 28, 1852, addressed to "My dear Squanquill," and signed E.R.C. The author was some sort of United States government official who had been recently sent to San Francisco to investigate government matters there. E.R.C. describes some of his work in California and his journey by ship to Panama, across the isthmus and from there to San Francisco.
