Contains papers and materials relating to J. M. Boutwell's career as a geologist from 1900 to 1945. Includes many mining maps and reports in different regions in Arizona (Bisbee), Utah (Bingham), Mexico (Cananea), and Peru (Cerro de Pasco). Also inludes business and professional correspondence, profesional affiliations, and reports and surveys, many dealing with the United States Geological Survey, which he worked for from 1900 to 1908.

Contains scrapbooks, artifacts, military papers, including a collection of V-mails, and letters belonging to Marjorie Shumway relating to her service in the Women's Army Corps, and to her hometown in Arizona. Dated 1936 to 2006.

Contains negatives of photographs of Native Americans from various reservations participating in both traditional and modern cultures. Also includes negatives of photographs that capture programs and conferences with Native Americans. Materials dated approximately 1954-1990.

Contains overhead positive transparencies. Includes illustrations and photographs depicting historical Native American culture, with an emphasis on hunting, fishing, and agricultural production. Also includes illustrations presumably used as departmental training materials as well as quotes from prominent leaders. Materials dated approximately 1972 to 2001.

The majority of materials were produced or gathered by Howard Rainer, director of Native American Educational Outreach Programs. Collection contains photocopies of two diaries of Parley Pratt Nelson, a student who participated on the Benjamin Cluff Brigham Young Academy Expedition (1899-1900) and served a mission in Southern California for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1901-1903).
