Oliver Boardman Huntington autobiography

Scope and Contents

Handwritten unsigned, autobiographical account believed to have been written by Huntington. The author writes of being called by Brigham Young and Daniel H. Wells to go with an expedition to Carson Valley and tell the Mormons there to return to Utah to meet the United States army, known as "Johnston's Army" in 1857. Huntington gives and account of this expedition and mentions those who participated in it.

Scope and Contents Two letters addressed to, and one written by, Robison at Fort Bridger in 1857. The earliest, written by Louis Vasquez on April 30, informs Robison that Vasquez and Jim Bridger will send someone to collect balance due on purchase of the fort. On verso is Robison's May 27 letter to Daniel H. Wells, forwarding the Vasquez letter. Photocopy of a handwritten letter dated April 12, 1867 and a newspaper clipping dated July 17, 1958. In the letter Brigham Young calls Ira Hinkley to settle Cove Creek and to build a fort there. The building is known as Cove Fort. The newspaper clipping shows a photograph of the fort.
