Scope and Contents Holograph document recording of names of 398 Menominee Indians in 1872. These individuals were the heads of households. Numbers of men, women, and children of each household are also presented. The roll was also a financial record indicating how much each family unit was paid by the US government on 13 Sept. 1872. Three-page document from the executive committee of the National Immigration Convention in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, addressed to William H. Hooper, U.S. Representative from Utah Territory. The memorandum summarizes recent Congressional measures pertaining to immigration, and requests Hooper's support of these laws being passed to improve immigration to the United States. Endorsed by William C. Staines, Utah Emigration Agent on a back panel. Endorsement dated April 29, 1871.

Luke P. Poland letter

Scope and Contents Handwritten letter from Luke P. Poland to "Major." In this letter, Poland describes different bills he has passed in Congress, including the Poland Act of 1874. This was a bill sponsored by Poland that removed power in the Utah justice system from Mormons and gave it to federal courts and officials, intended to allow for successful prosecutions of Mormon polygamists. This bill was in direct response to the LDS-controlled courts' refusal to enforce the Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act of 1862, which...
