Scope and Contents Typewritten copy of a handwritten diary. Clayton kept this diary from 1 Jan. 1840 to 13 Feb. 1842. Clayton writes about his missionary activities for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England and his return to the United States. He also writes about his daily activities in Nauvoo, Illinois. This item was typed by Alan S. Young in 1961. Also included are extensive footnotes relating to Clayton's entries into his journal. Handwritten diary in pencil. Clayton kept this diary from 1 Jan. 1840 to 13 Feb. 1842. Clayton writes about his missionary activities for the Mormon Church in England and his return to the United States. He also writes about his daily activities in Nauvoo, Illinois. Clayton's diary was published by James B. Allen and Thomas G. Alexander under the title: "Manchester Mormons: the Journal of William Clayton."

Henry Clegg diary and letter

Typescript of a diary and a typewritten letter. The diary was written from 30 Mar. to 4 Sept. 1855 and records Clegg's journey from Liverpool, England to the Western U.S. on his way to Utah. Parts of the original handwritten diary are in shorthand and were not transcribed. The letter is dated 12 Aug. 1981 and is from Garth N. Jones to James B. Allen. It tells about the life of Henry Clegg.

S. Q. Crosby letter

Handwritten and signed letter, dated August 14, 1896, and addressed to William W. Child, Mormon bishop in Hooper, Utah. Crosby writes about the financial difficulties under which missionaries for the Mormon Church labor in England and requests aid from the members in Utah.

Joel Grover diary

Microfilm copy of a handwritten diary covering the years from 1867 to 1869. Also included are notes and Grover family patriarchal blessings dating to 1912. Also in the collection are two cassette sound tapes and a partial typed transcription of the diary covering the years from 1867 to 1869. The item tells about Grover's experiences as a missionary for the Mormon Church in England.

Druce was born in England; was apprenticed as a baker in London in the 1830s; moved to Manchester; joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1842; migrated to the United States in 1846; worked as an engraver in New York State; migrated to Utah in 1861; settled in Salt Lake City, Utah; and served on a mission for the Church in the Eastern States in 1876.

Photocopy of a typewritten letter dated September 26, 1854 and addressed to the president and members of the "39th quorum of Seventies" of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The item was written when Dunbar was serving as a missionary in England. Dunbar writes about opening up an area near Taunton, England, for preaching and about various aspects of missionary work.
