Emery F. Barrus letters and diary

Nine handwritten letters and 6 pages of Elder Emery F. Barrus' journal kept while he served as a missionary for the Mormon Church in the Southern States Mission in 1899. Letters and journal describe both Barrus' travels and attempts to preach the restored gospel, primarily to people of Tennessee and Missouri. Both letters and journal pages are photocopied for patron use. Also included are the funerary program and a newspaper obituary of Ruth Hammond Barrus.

Typewritten talk, a biography of Bean's father, Willard Washington Bean, and a biography of Alvin Pliny Bean by Vicki Zimmerman. The biography of Willard Bean relates his missionary experiences for the Mormon Church in the Southern States, 1882-1884. The other items emphasize Alvin Bean's experiences in Palmyra.

Softbound photocopy of a typewritten autobiography which includes a newsclipping from "The Church News." Willard W. Bean served the Mormon Church for 29 years and acquired many properties for the Mormon Church in New York State, including the Hill Cumorah.

These items include letters received from Mormon Church leaders Heber J. Grant and J. Golden Kimball. Bean was a missionary to the Southern States and lived in Palmyra, New York from 1915 to 1939.
