Biography : Emeretta Phillips Thornton

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Emeretta Phillips was born in 1854 in New England. She was a member of the Church of Jesus-Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Utah in 1861. She settled in American Fork. She married Oliver E. Thornton in 1873 and died 1934. Much of the account is in the words of Emeretta.

Typescript of an autobiography. Blair writes about his parents, his joining of the Mormon Church, his migration to Utah, his mission to Texas for the Mormon Church, and his life in Salt Lake City, Utah. He includes patriarchal blessings of family members. There are many gaps in the diary.

Orley Dwight Bliss autobiography and diary

Scope and Contents Handwritten autobiography and diary. Account is retrospective until 1864, when Bliss writes short daily entries about his journey from Salt Lake City to Nebraska by ox team to help gather the poor to Utah. On the return trip to Utah, Bliss describes weather conditions, daily camping locations and mileage, encounters with Indian tribes, and more than twenty deaths from cholera. Bliss immigrated to Utah at age 8 and participated in the Utah War. Several pages of family genealogy are included...

Henry Green Boyle diaries

Scope and Contents Contains a handwritten autobiography and diaries related to Boyle's life and experience as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The autobiography was written beginning in 1844 and, in the same volume, he starts a diary in 1846. Boyle kept 14 additional volumes of diaries, dating from 1855 to 1889. Most of the content relates to Boyle's missionary experiences in California and to Southern States Mission, including while he was mission president from 1875 to 1878. Also...

Photocopy and typescript of a handwritten letter written while on the march with the Mormon Battalion. The item is addressed to Butterfield's mother and gives particulars about the Mormon pioneer trek to the west as well as the Mormon Battalion's mission and activities. Butterfield explains his Mormon faith to his mother.

Photocopy of a typescript of an autbiography "as given to H. Carson Healy, a grandson, during the summer of 1901 at Provo Bench (Orem), Utah." Carson tells Healy about joining the Mormon Church in Kentucky, facing persecutions in Missouri, migrating to Utah, and her life in Fairfield, Utah.

Typescript of a diary and a typewritten letter. The diary was written from 30 Mar. to 4 Sept. 1855 and records Clegg's journey from Liverpool, England to the Western U.S. on his way to Utah. Parts of the original handwritten diary are in shorthand and were not transcribed. The letter is dated 12 Aug. 1981 and is from Garth N. Jones to James B. Allen. It tells about the life of Henry Clegg.
