Collection consists primarily of notes for and drafts of Whipple's 1941 novel, The Giant Joshua, as well as for other short works such as The Golden Door, Arizona Strip, and Candle of the Lord. It also contains assorted magazine and newspaper clippings, periodicals, correspondence (including fan mail), audio and microfilm reels, personal and historical research, family history, and personal papers.

Frank Whitaker interview with Albert E. Haines

Scope and Contents

Typescript of an interview conducted by Frank Whitaker on 29 Jan. 1985 for Hillam's War Project at Brigham Young University. Haines talks about his training in the United States Army, his deployment to combat in October 1944 as a platoon leader, and his participation in the battles of the Hurtgen Forest and the Bulge. He was severely wounded by machine gun fire on 13 Jan. 1945.

Three reel-to-reel 1/4 inch audio tapes containing interviews with John Mills Whitaker in 1958. John discusses events from his life, as well as interactions with presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and the manifesto on polygamy. The interviewee is not identified.
