Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten copy of a letter dated 23 July 1907 and addressed to F. E. (Frederick Elnathan?) Eldredge. Also included are photocopies of Martineau's application to join the Sons of the American Revolution. In the letter Martineau tells Eldredge that the Mountain Meadows Massacre started when the Fancher train of immigrants poisoned the carcass of a dead cow which led to the death of four Indians. He writes that he had personal knowledge of the orders sent by militia leaders and...

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript of an interview. Dowd was interviewed by T. Pat Matthews in 1937 as part of the Federal Writer's Project for the Works Progress Administration. The item includes handwritten corrections. Dowd talks about his life as a slave. He was afraid of Federal forces when they moved into the area at the end of the Civil War, but he did not know he was free until five years later. He also talks about his early religious instruction.

Pen-and-ink portraits of the first president of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith (1805-1844), and his brother, Hyrum Smith (1800-1844). The items have been framed for possible display. The portraits may have been cut from something larger. The items were signed at the bottom of each picture and were dated 1844. Collection also includes digital scans of the items on compact disc.
