Brunson family papers

Scope and Contents

Photocopies of correspondence, a diary, newspaper clippings, certificates, and miscellaneous items. The diary was kept between December 1941 and March 1942 and relates Brunson's feelings and observations at the beginning of the United States' involvement in World War II. The correspondence includes items by Peter's father, Lewis Brunson (1831-1888), and by Mormon Church leaders. The clippings relate to the activities of Brunson family members.

J. Reuben Clark, Jr. papers

Abstract

The great bulk of the J. Reuben Clark Jr. papers were inventoried in 1967. This register is only of the Clark papers that have come to the library since that time. This addendum contains a variety of papers that cover the full life span of Mr. Clark. However, the great bulk of the material here are his personal diaries and his financial records.

First Presidency letter

Typewritten letter addressed "to the Presidents of Stakes and Bishops of Wards" stating that John W. Rigdon; son of early Mormon Church leader, Sidney Ridgon; be given "full and free opportunity to speak to the people in your public gatherings." The item was signed by Joseph Fielding Smith and two other members of the First Presidency.

Photocopy of a typewritten letter signed by Spencer W. Kimball and other members of the First Presidency of the Mormon Church. Letter includes guidelines for local Church authorities when interviewing members for callings, temple recommends, or missionary service. Includes instructions for local leaders to avoid indelicate inquiries into marital relations, as well as an interpretation of oral sex as constituting an unnatural, impure, or unholy practice.

Typewritten and signed letter addressed to William Conover of Springville, Utah. The item was signed by George Albert Smith, J. Reuben Clark, and David O. McKay. Conover was informed that the Book of Mormon had been translated into the Tahitian language.

Addressed to a teacher in Weber County. Mentions his early knowledge that God had a use for him and comments on the relative worth of being practical-minded and having book learning. Encourages practical education. He notes that he wrote the letter "with my own hand". Typed transcript included.

David O. McKay letter
