Scope and Contents In this autographed reminiscence, Colfax describes his stagecoach trip from Missouri to California in 1865. It is likely he made the trip in his capacity as chair of the Committee on Post Offices and Post Roads. James A. Baudle diary and an account book

Handwritten volume and photocopies of the materials. Baudle writes about his journey from Illinois to California in 1849. It also includes the author's financial ledger covering the years 1847 to 1871. The collection includes a photograph of Baudle taken in 1907.

Handwritten diary which describes Cook's journey overland from the Missouri River to California. Two holograph diaries describing ship travel from New York to California and work in California for the Yankee Jim Lumber Company; an 1854 account book for the same lumber company; ten sight drafts; a complaint by Kellogg against "Brother Houts;" an envelope franked by Truman Smith, a U.S. Representative in Congress, addressed to C.S. Kellogg, enclosing a printed copy of an 1848 speech by Smith in the House describing American involvement of the Mexican War.

L. H. McCullough diaries

This collection consists of a diary kept in a notebook. One section of the journal covers the years 1885-1886 when McCullough traveled to California to work. The remaining section covers the years 1895-1896. At this time McCullough was active in the Mormon Church. He visited local Mormon wards and branches and held meetings relating to the Sunday School.

Mattie Sparks Nutter and Zina Robinson Nutter Smith photograph albums

Three photograph albums, containing black and white photographs dated 1919-1941, as well as some ephemera. One album was created by Zina Robinson Nutter Smith, and depicts family life in Utah, a second album was collected by Mattie Sparks Nutter, containing family portraits and photographs depicting daily family life and travel in California. A third album in the collection is attributed to both Mattie and Zina.

Typescript (carbon copy) of a journal of a trip from Illinois to California in 1860. Tells of Ayer's experiences in the mines of Nevada, enlistment in the U.S. Cavalry, maneuvers in California, Arizona, New Mexico and northern Mexico, resignation in 1864, and later responsibility for Ayer Library at the Newberry Library.
