The collection relates primarily to Joab Collier (1855-1918) and Theodocia Keeler Collier (1858-1912). The Colliers were Mormons who lived in Provo, Vernal, and in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ebenezer Crouch autobiography

Scope and Contents

Typescript of an autobiography. Crouch was born in Tumbridge Wells, Kent, England; migrated to America in 1856; and came to Utah in 1859. Crouch tells about encounters with Ute Indians, describes Orrin Porter Rockwell, and writes about being married polygamously. He lived in numerous places in Utah and had several occupations.

Photocopy of a typewritten biography of Abraham Day, III (1817-1900). Abraham Day was born in Vermont, joned the Mormon Church, moved to Montrose, Iowa near Nauvoo, Illinois, served in the Mormon Battalion 1846-1847, migrated to Utah, took a second wife, and lived in Springville and Mt. Pleasant, Utah, and served in the Black Hawk War. The date of the composition of this item is uncertain.

Handwritten account books and diaries. Dearborn records his financial transactions and his daily activities. The diaries cover the years from 1880 to 1895 in which Dearborn writes about his life in Pennsylvania and Utah.

Handwritten note describing an included photograph. Also included is a typewritten copy of the note. The photograph is a portrait of Tom Lang or "Man-o-war-Tom" who "was the terror of the Mormons near him when he settled in S. Utah in 1874."

Rasmus Neilsen diary

Scope and Contents Typewritten copy of a translation into English of Neilsen's diary. The original is in Danish. The item was translated by Neilsen's son, Christian Emil Neilsen. Rasmus writes about his migration to the United States and about the death of his wife. Rasmus died on 25 March 1854. Also included is an autobiography of Christian Emil Neilsen. Diary

This is a holograph diary covering from 1 July 1881 to 15 April 1884. During this time, the author worked as a surveyor for the Utah Central Railroad in Spanish Fork Canyon and vicinity. The first 17 pages of the document are in pencil and the remainder are in ink. The hand is often difficult to decypher, especially since many of the entries are partly in shorthand (Pitman).

William L. Hill diary

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diary. Hill writes about the weather, farming on the "bench," visiting Bingham, Utah, and attending Mormon Church meetings. His entries are short and made on a daily basis. He could have lived near Bingham, Utah, because he once walked there from home. However, he received money from the city of Lehi, Utah.

Handwritten autobiography, 75 pages of John Nicolai Thueson Dorcheus, who lived in Gunnison, Utah, and later in Ashton, Idaho, and participated in the Black Hawk War against the Ute Indians in Utah. Also included are typed copies of patriarchal blessings of Dorcheus family members. Dated 1911.
