He was born on 9 December 1804 in Whitestown, New York, and moved to Chataugua County, New York, in 1807. Daniel Allen married Mary Anne Morris on 6 October 1828. They were baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in June 1832. In 1836, he moved to Kirtland, Ohio, and he later went to the Far West, Missouri, area.
