Abstract

Photocopies of handwritten and printed receipts, wills, correspondence, royal decrees, proclamations, pronouncements, grants, certificates, reports, licenses, orders, inventories, petitions, claims, and requests. The items were created mainly by New Mexican government officials and persons connected with local and territorial governments of that area.

Six items relating to Joseph Hawkins' role in the Mormon War in Missouri. Includes original handwritten and signed letters from Missouri Governor Lilburn W. Boggs, Adjutant General B. M. Lisle, and Brigadier General Green White, which contain military orders to Hawkins. Also includes a printed general order (original was removed to print collection) by Lilburn W. Boggs and B. M. Lisle; and, a newspaper article on Joseph Hawkins from a 1924 Missouri newspaper.

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed order in Spanish. The document is for the paymaster of Nueva Viscaya to give all soldiers of the province complete payments. The item reprimands the actions of Colonel Juan Felipe Oroses who was making deductions on the soldier's salaries as punishment for the desertion of 17 men of the garrison at Cerro Gordol.

Handwritten and signed orders dated 27 Sept. 1866 and 23 Sept. 1869. The materials appear to be signed by a T.G. Webber or a T.T. Webber. The items are addressed to Capt. F. S. Richards and were issued under the command of Brig. Gen. F. D. Richards and apparently deal with the fall muster of the Utah militia in Ogden.

Photocopy and typescript of an order dated Sept. 15, 1838 and addressed to an unnamed sergeant. This item directs the assembling of a company of Missouri Militia at Independence on Sept. 21 and 29, 1838 for the purpose of expelling the Mormons or resisting Indian "invasions."

Daniel H. Wells papers

Scope and Contents Two photocopies of original handwritten letters written by Daniel H. Wells. Typed transcripts of both letters are also included. The first letter was written on September 26, 1848, from Salt Lake City by Daniel Wells to "dear brother." He discusses sending his two yoke of oxen to a camp in addition to assistance from others.
