The materials pertain primarily to the history and settlement of the American West, the American Indian Wars and American Indian culture, and the preservation of western historical landmarks. Dated 1833 to 1951.

Microfilmed copies of handwritten and typescripts of interview notes, correspondence, general notes, and lists. The materials relate primarily to the Indian wars of North America from 1866 to 1895. The original materials reside in the Ellison--Camp collection at the Denver Public Library. The items were initialy created and collected by Walter Mason Camp with some materials generated by Robert Ellison. Also included are typescripts of some of the items.

Scope and Contents Materials contain handwritten record of McGillycuddy's duties as a surgeon with General George Crook during the Big Horn and Yellowstone Expedition of 1876. They also include a description of the Battle of Slim Buttes on September 9, 1876, and the death of the Oglala chief, American Horse.
