Scope and Contents

Printed autobiography. Blomberg tells about his early life, family, and experiences in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater during the Second World War. He fought in a number of campaigns including Guadalcanal and the Philippine Islands, where he served as a member of the Alamo Scouts. He was seriously wounded at the end of the war. "Recorded in 1995 by his wife Evelyn Blomberg, Edited by Lin Floyd, Layout by Daniel Hatch."

Calvin William Elton interviews

Scope and Contents Interview conducted by Murray Duff on April 16, 1985 for the Ray Hillam war project. Elton enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps in 1940, but he was used in ground combat in the Philippines in 1941. He was captured by the Japanese in 1942. He experienced the Bataan Death march for five days and was placed in a prison camp. Many men died every day because of disease and malnutrition. Elton talked about how he and his close friends kept each other alive. In 1943, he was sent to Japan....

Includes handwritten letters written by Dean Thornock to his wife Lu Jean Robinson Thornock. Each of these writings were written to LuJean (who lived in various locations including California, Idaho, and Montana) from his time in the Philippines during World War II. Also includes a birthday and Christmas card for her. Materials dated 1944-1945.
