Contains a phrenological report for Jesse N. Smith given by O. S. Fowler, dated 1872; a two-page manuscript by Mark Ardeth Dalton relating how he learned of the connection between his grandfather, Jesse N. Smith, and Heber J. Grant, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1918 to 1945, dated 1935; two copies of The Kinsman (vol. 29 no. 3-4) with stories relating to the other materials in the collection, dated 1975.

Smith was the president of the Scandinavian Mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1862 to 1864 and an early settler in Salt Lake City and in Parowan, Utah and in Snowflake, Arizona.
