John Haslem Clark life histories

The bulk of the collection describes the events of John Haslem Clark's life in his own words. He recalls his experience of traveling across the plains and settling in early Salt Lake City and Manti, and includes stories of encounters with Indians and the challenges of creating a life in newly-settled Utah. Also includes the genealogy of relatives and descendants of John Haslem Clark, Senior, John Haslem Clark's father.

Photocopies of typescripts. File contains excerpts from three documents, all originally compiled by Evans Coleman: "History of the Coleman Family;" "Saint Johns Purchase;" and "Biography of Emma Beck Coleman." These documents were originally compiled between 1938 and 1942, although all of them refer to events either in Missouri during the late 1830s or in Arizona during the 1880s.

Typescripts of the Kirtland Council Minute Book (1832-1837), photocopy of handwritten Nauvoo Library and Literary Institute records, and typescripts of the minute books of the High Council of the Mormon Church in Nauvoo, Illinois. The meeting minutes are in five books from 1840 to 1845 and document the function and activities of the leadership of the Mormon Church in Nauvoo.

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary of Dunlap's overland journey from Lee, Iowa to Montana by horse team in 1864. Dunlap wrote an introduction to the item, dated 30 January 1865, describing Montana and dedicated it to "My friends." Diary entries are very detailed and describe the geography of the overland route, food and camping conditions, encounters with Indian tribes, and trouble with thieves.
