The funeral services of John W. Hoover

Typewritten copy of the funeral services for John Whitmer Hoover on 29 May 1902. Among the speakers was the Mormon Apostle, Reed Smoot. Among the other speakers were John Edge Booth, Myron Tanner, and David John. Hoover's father joined the Mormon Church and moved his family to Nauvoo, Illinois in 1842 and later to Utah. John Hoover was a miller who married Mary Coursey in 1855 and lived in Springville, Utah. He moved to Provo, Utah in 1861. Also included is a biography of Hoover.

John Thomas Giles diaries

Giles writes about his daily activities in Provo, Utah; his two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii (1890-1897 and 1905-1907); his work at a lime kiln; his work on a railroad; and his teaching of Sunday School for the Church.

Milton H. Hardy diaries

Two handwritten diaries and pasted in newsclippings. Many diary entries were made in short hand. The newsclippings relate to Hardy's discussions of religion and educational matters and to his attempts to harmonize religion and science. Hardy travelled through Europe in 1875 and was active in Utah educational matters upon his return.

Also contains articles by other family members about E.C.'s life, his pottery business, and family history. Diary about E.C.'s later life is handwritten (1917-1926) and includes transcription. Edwin Smith Hinckley papers

These materials relate to Hinckley's work at Brigham Young University as a faculty member and on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, as superintendent of the Utah State Industrial School, and as secretary of the Provo Chamber of Commerce. The biographies are eulogies given by Hinckley's friends and associates.

Emma McDowell Jacobsen histories

Typewritten records. Jacobsen, working for the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, compiled a list of the names of early pioneers who were buried in the Provo City cemetery in Provo, Utah, from 1849 to 1859. Also included is a history of the first deaths and burials in Provo, Utah. The old city cemetery was first located on the hill where Brigham Young University was later built.

Letters, cash receipts, account books, deeds, certificates, memorabilia, indentures, and miscellaneous notes. The materials were created when Hoover and his family resided in Provo, Utah, when he operated the Excelsior Roller Mills in that city. Albert Jones diaries

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries, an autobiography, and correspondence. Jones wrote his autobiography in 1881. Jones served in the Utah Militia during the Black Hawk War and had numerous occupations and positions in the Mormon Church. His diaries start in 1884 when he was called to serve on a mission for the Mormon Church in England. Many entries are lengthy and detailed.
