Includes primarily records from the Kirtland and Nauvoo periods, with many relating to the construction of the Nauvoo Temple. Materials date from between 1833 and 1861.

Contains early manuscript copies of more than twenty revelations, all but two of which have since been published in the Doctrine and Covenants. Seven of these these are addressed to Whitney, either mentioning him in a priesthood role or giving him instructions. Materials date from between 1829 and 1847.

Scope and Contents Collection contains correspondence, financial and legal documents, church records, military records, manuscript revelations, poetry, journals, and other material by Whitney and his family. The records document the ecclesiastical functions, political activities, and finances of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when it was headquartered in Ohio, Missouri, Illinois, and Utah.
