Handwritten letters all addressed to Cardinal Rodolfo Pio da Carpi, legate of the marquisate of Ancona (200 items). Most of the items deal with religious and political issues relating to the Council of Trent (1545-1563). Handwritten letter in Spanish addressed to Francisco Fernando de Avalos and dated August 18, 1556. Philip directs Avalos to send 1500 troops to the Duke of Alba serving in Italy. The item is signed, "Yo el Rey."
