Scope and Contents Handwritten account of Keith's overland journey from St. Joseph, Missouri to Weaverville, California, in 1850. Keith paid a "Mr. Platner" to guide him and seventeen others to California. After being swindled and abandoned at Fort Laramie, Keith was furnished with provisions by the fort's commanding officer. Jesse Bigler Martin diaries

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries with a typed copy of one volume. Martin kept diaries apparently in three volumes. The second and third volumes covering the time from 1854 to 1857 are found with the collection. A typed copy of the first diary covering the years from 1853 to 1854 is also included. Handwritten and unsigned letter dated 19 May 1850. Item was written by an unidentified member of a wagon train and includes some detail about the author's preparation for the trip to California. The letter describes the overland journey from Saint Joseph, Missouri to the Platte River and ends 80 miles from Fort Laramie, Wyoming. Author mentions dining on buffalo, weather conditions, and cooking on the plains.

Handwritten records dated 1858 and 1859. These records include information of a company of emigrants from Nebraska City, Nebraska to Genoa, Utah and from Camp Floyd, Utah to Carson Valley, Nevada. Included are accounts of the travels, articles of incorporation, and notes on the meetings of the company. Also included are bound photocopies of the documents.
