Preston Thomas diaries

Scope and Contents Typewritten copies of diaries. The journals were typed by Thomas' son, Daniel H. Thomas, and entitled: "Preston Thomas: His Life and Travels." Daniel often provided introductory material between sections of the diaries. Most of the journals relate to the five missions on which he served for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Typewritten transcript of Herman Thorup's journal for the period of 1879 to 1929; documents his mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Denmark, as well as his life in Salt Lake City, Utah; his arrest, trial, and imprisonment for "unlawful cohabitation"; his work as a florist and nurseryman; the impact of the Edmunds Tucker Act; Utah politics; his own political activities; his volunteer work; and his family and spiritual life.

Joseph S. Thurber diary

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diary kept while Thurber was serving on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Switzerland. He worked in the French-speaking areas. Also included is an autobiography at the end of the record in which Thurber writes about his early life. Thurber lived in Richfield, Utah.

Scope and Contents

Correspondence, speeches, memorabilia, newspaper clippings, biographies, autobiographies, and patriarchal blessings for the Mormon Church. The materials relate to Genevieve Tietjen and her husband, Henry Roland Tietjen, particularly when Henry served as a mission president for the Mormon Church in Hawaii. The biographies and autobiographies relate largely to Sarah' ancestors.

Helon Henry Tracy diary

Nancy Alexander Tracy autobiography

Scope and Contents

Typescript of autobiography. Nancy was born in New York and raised by her grandparents. She married Moses Tracy in 1832 and joined the Mormon Church in 1834. She lived in Kirtland, Ohio; Far West, Missouri; Nauvoo, Illinois; "Winter Quarters"; and Ogden, Utah. She witnessed and experienced some of the persecutions of Mormons in Missouri and Illinois. She went with her husband on a mission to New York and was a member of the Mormon Relief Society in Nauvoo. She covers her life until 1860.

Tripp's conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, his missions to the state of Maine, his visit with Joseph Smith's mother (Lucy Mack Smith), wife (Emma Smith), and son (Joseph Smith III) in Nauvoo in November 1855, his participation in the Utah War in 1857, and his life in Salt Lake City. John Urie letters

Scope and Contents

Handwritten and signed letters written to Urie's wife, Priscilla, and to his mother. Two of the items were written while Urie was on a mission for the Mormon Church in Glasgow, Scotland. The remaining items were written in Cedar City, Utah. Urie writes about personal and family matters and also about his activities and community affairs.

John Van Cott papers

Scope and Contents

Correspondence, diaries, and a family history. The correspondence is between Van Cott and family members. Also included are handwritten and signed letters from Brigham Young, second president of the Mormon Church, to Van Cott. The diaries cover the time when Van Cott served as a missionary for the Mormon Church from 1852 to 1856 and from 1859 to 1862. He was in Iowa City, Iowa, when the first handcart companies left for Utah.
