Scope and Contents

Handwritten diary kept by Ernest Burgess and by his wife, Donna Miles Burgess. Ernest writes about his missionary experiences in Germany and about his life in Roosevelt, Utah. Donna Burgess continues the account of life in Roosevelt until 1959. Many of the entries are long and detailed, but there are many lengthy gaps in the record.

Robert Lang Campbell journal

Scope and Contents note The collection contains Campbell's original handwritten journal where he describes his missionary experiences in Scotland; emigration to Nauvoo, Illinois; experiences traveling to Utah as a Mormon pioneer; and duties as a Mormon Church leader. Dated 1843-1848. Campbell also added to the end of his journal handwritten transcriptions of his missionary certificate, his appointment to the Glasgow Conference, and a letter to the Church in Wales from Franklin D. Eugene M. Cannon diaries

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diaries in ink and pencil. Cannon writes about his first mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tahiti starting in 1893 and about his activities in Salt Lake City, Utah. Also included are notes on the Tahitian language.

Joseph Hatten Carpenter diaries

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diaries, notes, account books, correspondence, and a translation of the Book of Mormon into the Samoan language. Carpenter writes about his mission for the Mormon Church in Samoa and about his activities as a resident of Manti. Late in life, Carpenter moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. Also included is a printed copy of a microfilm copy of a handwritten diary. Carpenter also writes about his early life and his travels to northern Germany and France in 1884 and 1885.

John B. Fairbanks diaries

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries with typescripts of several items. The diaries have many gaps. They principally cover the time Fairbanks served as a missionary for the Mormon Church in the Southern States Mission from 1881 to 1883 and when he served as a missionary for the same faith in South and Central America from 1900 to 1902. Scope and Contents

Handwritten diaries and teaching notes. Giles writes about his daily activities in Provo, Utah; his two missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii (1890-1897 and 1905-1907); his work at a lime kiln; his work on a railroad; and his teaching of Sunday School for the Church.

Alma Greenwood diary and scrapbook

Scope and Contents

Handwritten diary and scrapbook. The journal was kept from 1 Jan. to 31 Dec. 1883 when Greenwood was serving as a missionary in New Zealand. He reports on his daily activities in entries that are often lengthy and detailed. The scrapbook was created by Alma's wife, Florence Greenwood. It contains newspaper clippings from the 1880s that relate to Mormons, Utah, and to national happenings.

John Claiborne Harper papers

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary, letters, certificates, paroles, and Mormon Church blessings. The diary was kept while Harper served on a mission to the Southern States for the Mormon Church from 1887 to 1888. Also included is an autograph book signed by Mormons in the Utah State prison for polygamy in 1889. The certificates and letters relate to Mormons in Mexico, to Harper's civic appointments in Payson, and to family matters. Two paroles were given to Harper on 10 April 1865 at Appomattox Court...

John Peter Johnson papers

Scope and Contents

Handwritten correspondence, diaries, notebooks, patriarchal blessings, certificates, an autobiography, and genealogical materials. The correspondence are between Johnson and his wife, Hana, and were written while Johnson was on a mission for the Mormon Church in Sweden. The diaries were kept while Johnson was on his mission and after his return to Ogden, Utah. The certificates deal with Johnson's numerous callings in the Mormon Church.

The collection contains (1) the journals of LaFayette C. Lee and Pearl M. Lee during and after their mission to Japan; (2) photocopies of several nineteenth-century items, including photographs and a Nauvoo receipt; and (3) photocopies of a photo album from mission to Japan, 1915-1919.
