Gordon C. Cone diary

Scope and Contents Handwritten diary of Cone's overland journey by ox team from Waukesha, Wisconsin to California in 1849. Cone is a descriptive writer and proud to record "only facts." Diary describes traveling conditions, encounters with Indians, cholera outbreaks, fellow travelers, and government assistance at the end of the trail. Album includes 71 photographs taken in and around Ogden, Utah about 1890. Some of the shots were taken in Salt Lake City, Utah, and vicinity. The notes as to the locations where the photographs were taken are found with the prints. The album was given by M. O. Corey to Mora D. Ritchie in 1897.

Wheelwright, Merva R. Morris, Vernon J. Lee Masters, and Margaret C. Richards. Also in the collection are five pages of sheet music for hymns.

Biography of Edward Covington

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Covington was born in England in 1826. He joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and migrated to Utah in 1857 where he settled in Salt Lake City. He married Emma Pickering and died in 1919.

Sketch of the life of Hannah Hardy Eckersley Crompton

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typed biography of Hannah Crompton by an unknown author. Hannah was born in 1815 in England, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, came to the United States, migrated to Utah, lived in Salt Lake City, and later went to American Fork and then to Sanpete County. She died in 1901.

P. Rothwell Crook diary

Handwritten diary describing a trip from Liverpool, England through various parts of the United States from 16 Aug. to 27 Oct. 1872. Crook visited numerous places in New York State, Canada, Illinois, and Michigan. He also visited Salt Lake City, Utah and gave a destription of that city and the Mormons living there in entries roughly 1500 words in length.
