William Carter was a Mormon who lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1847, and lived in Salt Lake City and later in St. George, Utah. He was a polygamist who spent time in the Utah penitentiary for bigamy.

Scope and Contents Bound typewritten autobiography of Mary Woolley Chamberlain. Mary lived in St. George, Kanab, Provo, and Salt Lake City, Utah. She gives detailed accounts of family life, Mormon Church activities, and events in these towns and in Utah in general from her birth to 1936 when she wrote her history. This record was compiled, typed, and put with genealogy work-sheets and photographs probably in 1981. Also included are tributes to Mary by family members.

Esaias Edwards autobiography and diary

Scope and Contents Handwritten autobiography and diary. The account is retrospective until 1856. Edwards writes extensively about his conversion to the Mormon Church in 1839, life at Nauvoo, Illinois, and the death of two of his wives. There is a lengthy discussion in the opening pages of the diary about astronomy and a family cooperative city, "Edwardsville," which he hoped to build. Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript. The item is a fragment of an autobiography of Eleanor Cannon Woodbury Jarvis. She was born on 9 March 1854. She moved to St. George, Utah, in 1861 and married George Frederick Jarvis in 1872. She tells about her and her husband's work in the Mormon Church, describes the activities of her children, and gives her opinion of polygamy.

Scope and Contents Handwritten and typewritten biographies, diaries, newspaper clippings, and family genealogical records. Included are biographies of Benjamin F. Johnson (1818-1905), Joel Hill Johnson (1802-1882), and Seth Johnson (1839-1927). The Johnson family joined the Mormon Church in the 1830s, lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, and later migrated to Utah where they settled in various communities.

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typescript. The item is a ten-page autobiography of Commodore Perry Liston. Also included is an index to the item. Liston describes how he was born in Ohio in 1821 and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) in 1851. He came to Utah in 1852 and moved to Cedar City. He was present at Mountain Meadows in 1857 when the Fancher Train was destroyed. He thought "there were some good people among them, consequently I did oppose Killing them....
