Biography : Elijah Bourne, native pioneer

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography. Elijah was born in 1851 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and he married mary Ann Able in 1871 and Rosa Abel in 1880. He served time in prison for polygamy and died in 1890. He lived in American Fork, Utah, his entire life.

William Carter was a Mormon who lived in Nauvoo, Illinois, migrated to Utah in 1847, and lived in Salt Lake City and later in St. George, Utah. He was a polygamist who spent time in the Utah penitentiary for bigamy.

John W. Hess autobiography

Scope and Contents Typewritten autobiography. Hess was born in Franklin County, Pennsylvania and was converted to the Mormn Church in 1834. He lived with the Mormons in Missouri and Illinois and witnessed persecutions in both places. He was a member of the "Mormon Battalion" during the war with Mexico, migrated to Utah, married several women, served as a legislator in Utah, and served as a missionary to the "Washakie" (Shoshoni) Indians.

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typescript. The item is a fragment of an autobiography of Eleanor Cannon Woodbury Jarvis. She was born on 9 March 1854. She moved to St. George, Utah, in 1861 and married George Frederick Jarvis in 1872. She tells about her and her husband's work in the Mormon Church, describes the activities of her children, and gives her opinion of polygamy.
