Jacobs family letters

The Jacobs family letters are correspondence between Zina Diantha Huntington Jacobs Smith Young, Henry Bailey Jacobs, and their son, Henry Chariton Jacobs. In addition to these letters, there are also diary excerpts from Zina and Henry's other son, Zebulon Jacobs. The collection consists of two folders and is 123 pages in length. The dates of the correspondence ranges from 1846-1915.

John Jenkins autobiography

Scope and Contents

Typewritten autobiography. Jenkins writes about his family joining the Mormon Church in England, their migration to Mosquito Creek, Iowa, where they lived for eleven years. Jenkins migrated to Farmington, Utah. He participated in the "Morrisite War" of 1862, helped other Mormons come to Utah, was married to three women, hid from federal officials who pursued him for "unlawful cohabitation," and served five months in jail on a charge of polygamy.

Ole Anderson Jensen autobiographies and diaries

Photocopies of handwritten diaries. Jensen joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1859, served on a mission to Denmark, and immigrated to the United States in 1863. He was a polygamist who lived in Cache Valley, Utah, and in Star Valley, Wyoming. Also included is a biography of Alma L. Jensen by Annie Jensen Wickham.

Typewritten biographies and family histories. The materials relate to the families of Benjamin Franklin Johnson, Utah poneer, Mormon polygamist, farmer, and secretary to the first president of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith. Also included are a biography of Sarah Elizabeth Senior Johnson, daughter-in-law of Benjamin Johnson, and a book of poetry.

Albert Jones diaries

Scope and Contents Handwritten diaries, an autobiography, and correspondence. Jones wrote his autobiography in 1881. Jones served in the Utah Militia during the Black Hawk War and had numerous occupations and positions in the Mormon Church. His diaries start in 1884 when he was called to serve on a mission for the Mormon Church in England. Many entries are lengthy and detailed. Mads Jorgensen diaries and Letters

Scope and Contents

Handwritten letters and a diary. Also included are typescripts of diaries. Some items are in Danish. Most of the materials were produced when Jorgensen was serving on a mission for the Mormon Church in Scandinavia. The letters were written to his wives. His diaries also cover the time he spent in prison for polygamy.

James Keeler diaries

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of handwritten diaries. Keeler writes about his activities while serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Hawaii from 1850 to 1855 and from 1876 to 1878. Keeler also writes about his life in Utah as a carpenter and farmer. Also included is a diary of Eliza Shelton Keeler, James' wife, which she kept from 1891 to 1902. The Keelers lived much of the time in Richfield, Utah.

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten autobiography and diary. These materials were created when Kirby was in the territorial penitentiary of Utah for polygamy. Kirby was born in England, joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1852, performed missionary work in England, migrated to Utah in 1863 where he lived in several different places, took additional wives, joined the United Order, and went to prison for polygamy. Scope and Contents Photocopies of a typescript of a diary and an autobiography. The diary covers the years from 1851 to 1857 and has many gaps. The autobiographical materials cover the rest of Larsen's life. Larsen was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Denmark and performed missionary work in that country and in Norway.
