Goose Creek melody

Scope and Contents

Handwritten poem to be sung to the tune "Goose Creek." The item is a parody of the battle of Crooked River and George M. Hinkle. The items is believed to have been written by a Mormon in or around Nauvoo, Illinois, near the year 1840. On the back is written, "Militia called by Samuel W. Richards."

Collection includes the originals, photocopies, and digital scans of a ledger used by David Hale and two notebooks used by Ira P. Hale. Also includes a photocopy and a typescript of a letter from Lorenzo D. Wasson, Emma Smith, and a third author to David Hale. The handwriting may be from Joseph Smith, but it is unsigned. Original documents date from 1827 to 1888.

Heber Q. Hale manifestation and poem

Scope and Contents Twenty-five page handwritten transcription of Hale's manifestation on the spirit world. According to the transcription, this manifestation was related by him at a genealogical conference held in the auditorium of the Bishops' Building, Salt Lake City, Utah, in October 1920. In the account, Hale speaks of a vision he received while at the home of W. F. Rawson in Carey, Idaho on January 20, 1920.
