Thomas Beard journals and reminiscence

Biographical sketch of Peter Beck

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a typewritten biography of Peter Beck. The author of the item is unknown. Peter Beck was born in Denmark in 1850 and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was eight years old. He migrated to Utah in 1862. Included are some comments by Beck relating to his journey to Utah. Beck became a rancher and farmer and settled in American Fork, Utah. He married two women, had 17 children, and died in 1927.

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a handwritten letter dated 1 Feb. 1908 and addressed to "Son & Daughter." The item was written in Manti, Utah. Bench writes about his early life in Utah. He tells about settling in Manti early in the 1850s and about the hardships he faced at that time. Scope and Contents This collection contains one small black photo album. The album was made by John F. Bennett for Mr. and Mrs. George Albert Smith in the 1930s. It is similar to other albums put together by Bennett but is uniquely arranged with the Smiths in mind. Bennett used images created by several notable pioneer photographers such as William H. Ole H. Berg biographies

Typewritten biographies and an autobiography. Jenkins writes a biography of Ole Hendrick Berg (1840-1919). Berg was a convert to the Mormon Church in Norwary who migrated to Utah in 1866. He settled in St. George, Utah. Also included is a two-page autobiography by Berg written in 1892.

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a handwritten autobiography and diary. Bigler wrote about his early life from 1815 to 1846 when his diary began. He was born in West Virginia, had encounters with Indians in that state, and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1837. He moved to Far West, Missouri, in 1838; met Joseph Smith, the first president of the Mormon Church; suffered persecutions in Missouri; moved to Qunicy, Illinois, in 1839; and served on a mission for the...

Jacob G. Bigler autobiography

Photocopy of a typescript of an autobiography. Bigler writes about his relationship with the first president of the Mormon Church, Joseph Smith (1805-1844), his life in Nauvoo, Illinois, his migration to Utah, and his life in Nephi, Utah. Bigler served on a mission for the Mormon Church in Ireland and was active in Mormon Church activities in Nephi.

William Wallace Bilings diary

Scope and Contents

Photocopy of a microfilm copy of a handwritten diary. Bilings kept this diary while migrating to Utah to be with members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Bilings writes about his journey from July to September of 1864. He describes the traveling conditions, the weather, hardships, camp grounds, daily mileage, encounters with Indians, and deaths caused by illness. Bilings [Billings] later settled in Provo, Utah.
