Biography of Joseph Grafton Hovey

Scope and Contents Typescripts of material of Joseph Hovey, a Mormon convert in Illinois in 1839 and later a pioneer to Utah, compiled and written by his grandson, including a detailed journal written in the first person for the years 1839 to April 1854 and a brief journal concerning life in central Utah in 1855-1856. Also included is supplementary material taken from a journal of Joseph Hovey's wife, Lusannah.

Biography of Samuel Kendall Gifford, pioneer of 11 September 1850

Scope and Contents Photocopy of a microfilmed copy of a typewritten biography. Samuel Kendall Gifford was born in New York in 1821 and joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints. He migrated to Utah in 1850, settled in Washington County, Utah, had four wives, and died in 1907.

Robert Lang Campbell journal

Scope and Contents note The collection contains Campbell's original handwritten journal where he describes his missionary experiences in Scotland; emigration to Nauvoo, Illinois; experiences traveling to Utah as a Mormon pioneer; and duties as a Mormon Church leader. Dated 1843-1848. Campbell also added to the end of his journal handwritten transcriptions of his missionary certificate, his appointment to the Glasgow Conference, and a letter to the Church in Wales from Franklin D. They traveled by steamboat and rail to Atchison, Kansas, and from there "in one of Ben Hollidays stage coaches" to Fremont's Orchard. They encountered about sixty Indians. They arrived safely in Denver. Walker went with a wagon train for some "diggings discovered about five hundred miles north of Salt Lake City." Esaias Edwards autobiography and diary

Scope and Contents Handwritten autobiography and diary. The account is retrospective until 1856. Edwards writes extensively about his conversion to the Mormon Church in 1839, life at Nauvoo, Illinois, and the death of two of his wives. There is a lengthy discussion in the opening pages of the diary about astronomy and a family cooperative city, "Edwardsville," which he hoped to build. Elmer Ewing collection of Mormon letters

Scope and Contents Collection includes photocopies of correspondence collected by Elmer Ewing written by Mormon pioneers. Includes the letters of Temperance Bond Mack, Christeen Golden Kimball, and Nathan Calhoun Cheney describing their travels to Salt Lake City and other events in Mormon history. One letter by Cheney also includes a description of events surrounding the death of Joseph Smith.

Scope and Contents Journal written by Jens C. Gasberg in Danish between 1865 and 1911.
