Life of William Howell

Biography of William Howell (1816-1851) by his grandson, William Louis Howell. William Howell was born in Wales and was converted to the Mormon Church. He was active in that faith and died in 1851 near Kanesville, Iowa, while moving with the Mormons to Utah.

Photocopy of a handwritten biography of Albert Merrill. Merrill was born on Long Island, New York; joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1841; moved to Nauvoo, Illinois, in 1843; migrated to Utah in 1852; and settled in Provo, Utah. He served on a mission for the Church to the Eastern States from 1869 to 1870 and was made a patriarch of the Church in 1873.

Autobiography by Cyrena Dustin Merrille, including her experience joining the Mormon Church in 1837, time spent in Far West, Missouri, Nauvoo, Illinois, Winter Quarters, Nebraska, and her migration to Salt Lake City, Utah. She describes the impact of a measles outbreak among Ute Indians in Salt Lake City in 1851, and an 1876 move to Arizona with her family. Also included is a genealogy of the Merrill family. They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, near the "Indian Farm" by Spanish Fork, Utah, at the Tintic Mining district near Eureka, Utah, and near Provo, Utah. They had encounters with Ute Indians.
